Japanese restaurant arrives in downtown Crown Point | Local News

The arrival of the new Portillo on Indianapolis Boulevard in Schererville will not be like the great restaurant and restaurant in Merrillville or other places in Portillo that people know and love.

The Chicago-style, laid-back hot dog chain expands with a new drive-thru model. Oak Brook-based Portillos is launching the new Portillo’s Pick Up at 1444 N. Larkin Ave. in Joliet.

The 3,750 square foot restaurant will not have a dining room. It will have three drive-thru lanes and a pick-up area. He will also offer delivery and catering.

“This new restaurant is unlike anything Portillo’s has ever done,” said Michael Osanloo, CEO of Portillo. “We show the interior in Joliet. With this new model, customers will get the signature Portillo experience with our unparalleled Chicago street food exclusively through our pickup and delivery channels. We know our customers appreciate the convenience of our drive-thru and delivery, so we’re happy to step up.

The new restaurant will open its doors this winter and is recruiting for various positions. It’ll serve hot dogs, Maxwell Street glazes, Italian beef sandwiches, charcoal-grilled burgers, salads and his signature chocolate cake.

“Portillo’s is a popular regional restaurant that I am proud to host in Joliet,” said Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk. “This new restaurant concept combined with the popularity of Portillo’s is a promising addition to the North Ridge Plaza shopping center. This is another exceptional development for Joliet and its residents.

Joliet’s stripped-down location will still have the elaborate design flair Portillo is known for, with the facade having a railroad theme.
